Horse riding Safari in the heat of the Masai Mara
Horseback safari Safari is an amazing peaceful activity which involves riding out in a wildlife rich area specifically to view and interact with wildlife.
Kenya is where the concept of horseback safaris began in the 1970’s. The country offers the best opportunity to see large herds of wildlife on horseback.
There is no better way to savour the wilderness of the Masai Mara and experience its unparalleled wildlife population than on horseback. Horses are the most natural and exciting means to explore the area.
Combine that with the lack of engine noise or any other artificial contrivance and you can see why so many people consider horseback safari to be a far superior experience than conventional vehicle-based safari.
At Kilima Camp, we can offer both: game drives on board our 4×4 open sided vehicles with our local guides and horse riding safari. We can tailor made and design holidays that will suit you perfectly combining horse riding and game drives.
There is no other camps nor lodges in the Masai Mara that offers great horse riding and game viewing and superb accommodation. Other camps offer horse riding safari with mobile seasonal tented camps (not the centre-based lodge rides as we offer at Kilima Camp).
Experienced riders (after an initial riding assessment in the arena) will get the opportunity for some faster riding. We can arrange 4 hours in the moring and 2 hours in the afternoon. The pace of riding is varied; in between fast and thrilling gallops alongside giraffe, zebra and other wild animal. We take time to indulge in some of the best bird watching in the world.
If you are new to horse-riding, you can get a 30-minute lesson on basic horse riding followed by a 30 minutes excursion into our conservation for an experience you are yet to have, and will hardly find elsewhere.
