Best time to visit the Masai Mara and go on safari in Kenya

When is the best time to plan a safari in Kenya and visit the Masai Mara?

When planning a holiday, people always ask about “the best time to go” and when the weather is at its all time best.

It is worth considering travelling to the Masai Mara in Low season / rainy season while planing a safari.
Masai Mara Reserve experiences two dry seasons and two rainy seasons.
Main rainy seasons in the Masai Mara is April and May while November and the start of December is known as small rainy season.

The Maasai Mara is a year-round fantastic game-viewing destination and one of the best safari destination, but rates do differ with the seasons.

At Kilima Camp we have Low season rate in April and May. High season is around Christmas / New Year Eve and during the Great Migration, a unique event from July to October. The other periods of the year are Mid Season.

The Masai Mara offers exceptional all year-round game viewing and it is worth considering Low seasons and Mid season for several reasons:
– Escape the crowds and have the Masai Mara all to yourself
– benefit from discounted rates, better offers and cheaper rates – even international fare to Kenya
– experience unique happenings that don’t take place during high season

Rains bring new life to the plains in both food sources and water and you can witness a lot of newborn animals / babies in low / rainy seasons when the grass is green.
Migratory birds especially until from March to April
Vegetation looks like the heavens, the Bush is well watered and all is green.

After the rains comes the sun and after the Low and Mid season come the High Season with the Great Migration, the high light of the Masai Mara from July to October…
