Kilima Camp Masai Mara a truly responsible Semi Permanent Tented Camp and eco friendly camp with GOLD Rating.

The facility was built in 2007 on a private concession area of 119 hectares ( 320 acres) bordering the official perimeter of the Mara Triangle Wilderness Area within the Masai Mara National Reserve. We have a partnership with the Maasai local community to promote environmental conservation and sustainable community development through ecotourism. Our Maasai landowners benefit directly from tourism through employment and conservation fees. The concession area is an integral part of the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem providing critical wildlife dispersal area for migratory wildlife. It is frequented by wildlife species including lions, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, rock hyrax amongst other species. It is also a haven for bird species. Kilima Camp Masai Mara was opened in 2007 when we welcomed our first guests . It has 15 guest tents with a bed capacity of 30 guests and a total work force of about 25 employees in average all year round.

With increased choices for up-market safari camps and lodges, especially in the Masai Mara area, how can you really differentiate between the truly responsible camps, and those that just have enticing pictures, websites, and “blurb”!?

Kilima camp has been awarded the Gold medal from Eco tourism Kenya which is an internationally recognized committee of environmental professionals that inspect and “eco-rated” camps and lodges for their environmental, economic and social practices. Under the scheme, emphasis is given to protection of the environment, sustainable use of resources and support to local communities.

The criterion of best practice includes:

  • Protecting and investing in the environment
  • Reducing and recycling wastePrevention of pollution
  • Promoting sustainable resources
  • Investment in and empowerment of communities including local recruitment of staff
  • Ethical workplace and business practices, including support for local trade
  • Promoting and education of responsible tourism to local communities and staff

We are proud to offer an incomparable combination of first class wilderness adventure, amazing wildlife, and authentic immersion in Masai culture. As well as wishing for all our guests to share and discover our little corner of paradise, our bigger mission is the preservation of the wildlife and conservation of the environment and local community.
