Bush Walk
African bush walks
are the other favourite activity at Kilima Camp, which are making Kilima renowned in all the Masai Mara area.
Being situated at the edge of the Masai Mara national reserve on top of the siria Escarpment, boreding the offial perimeter of the game reserve, Kilima Camp can offer you what most camps situated inside the protected area of the Masai Mara can not propose: experiencing the African bush on foot with our African bush walks: encounter wildlife in a totally different way, under the expert guidance of your naturalist guide and Masai moran (warrior or escort).
Their perfect knowledge of the African bush is essential. The Moran will be happy to initiate you to the use of the traditional Masai weapons: spear, bow and arrows. Would you be a good Moran?
Most of our safari walks and Afrian Bush walks take place in our exclusive concession area, for even more intimacy… Our African bush walks offer you the unique opportunity to observe big game animals and wildlife on foot, but also to discover smaller African species present in the Masai Mara area as well as the prolific bird life, and to learn a lot about the way of life of the local Masai people.
Add to this the superb scenery and you have the ideal cocktail for an unforgettable African experience!
Our African bush walks are preferably conducted in the morning. They take 1 to 4 hours, according to the specific safari walk you will choose for and the number of breaks you will make.
All our safari walks and African Bush Walks are led in English by our experienced naturalist guides, who will tell you lots of interesting or surprising facts about the animals, birds, insects, shrubs and trees of the area. The African bush walks are also excellent opportunities to learn more about the Masai living in the Masai Mara area.
There are 3 main African bush walks from Kilima Camp:
- from a gentle stroll in the hills (Kilima safari Walk)
- to more sportive hikes across the valleys (Forest safari Walk)
- or down the Siria escarpment and along the Mara River (River Safari Walk).
We also organize day visits to Dupoto Forest, the largest (almost) intact primary forest left in the Masai Mara area, which is about 20 km from the official Mara Mara National Reserve. A completely different world (difficult to immagine before visiting it) !
For your African bush walks: you should bring and wear the same as for our game drive plus comfortable hiking shoes.
